Budget Safari · Short Break
A short, no-frills route into the world's most famous reserve — real Big Five game drives on a real budget.
01°25'S 35°00'E — MASAI MARA
For travellers who want the authentic Masai Mara experience without booking a luxury lodge to get it.
This is a short, focused route — pick-up in Nairobi, two full days of game driving in one of the richest ecosystems on the continent, and a straightforward drop-off back in the city. What it trades away is the marble bathroom and the private vehicle; what it keeps is everything that actually matters — Big Five sightings, a knowledgeable local guide, and a genuine budget tented camp inside striking distance of the reserve.
It's a route we recommend often to travellers short on time or budget who still want the real thing, not a compromise version of it.
Day by day
An early pick-up from your Nairobi hotel, airport, or location, with a stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for photos on the way.
Arrive at the reserve in time for lunch at your budget camp, then head straight into an afternoon game drive until sunset — lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, and buffalo are all in play, alongside wildebeest, giraffe, and zebra.
An early breakfast opens into a full day in the park, with a packed lunch eaten out on the plains. The route runs via the Mara River, the setting for the Great Wildebeest Migration between July and October.
Cheetah, elephant, lion, hippo, and crocodile are all realistic sightings, alongside hundreds of resident bird species. An optional visit to a local Maasai village can be added for a small extra fee.
A leisurely final breakfast at camp, with an optional cultural village visit before departure.
The drive back to Nairobi arrives in the afternoon, with drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
