Budget Safari · Family
Boat rides, rhino tracking, and Big Five game drives — a Kenya introduction built at a pace that works for the youngest traveller in the group.
NAIROBI · LAKE NAIVASHA · LAKE NAKURU · MASAI MARA
An affordable wildlife holiday built for all ages, not just adults who can sit still through a long game drive.
The route starts gently — a boat safari and a walking safari among giraffes and zebras at Lake Naivasha, kid-safe because Crescent Island has no resident predators. From there it's rhino country at Lake Nakuru, then two full days chasing the Big Five in the Masai Mara, with a Maasai village visit and an optional giraffe hand-feeding session to close things out.
Every lodge and camp on this route has been chosen with families specifically in mind — proper beds, workable meal times, and staff used to travelling with children rather than tolerating them.
Day by day
A scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley opens the trip, arriving at a family-friendly lakeside lodge in time for a boat safari — hippos, kingfishers, and fish eagles from the water.
In the afternoon, a walking safari on Crescent Island Game Sanctuary lets the kids get close to giraffes, zebras, and gazelles on foot, safely, since the island has no resident predators.
After breakfast, on to Lake Nakuru — one of the more reliable places in Kenya to see both black and white rhino in a single outing, alongside flamingos, buffalo, and Rothschild giraffes.
An afternoon game drive covers the park's compact but wildlife-dense circuit.
Arrive at the Mara in time for lunch, followed by an evening game drive — elephants, lions, and cheetahs are all realistic sightings on a first afternoon.
A full day in the reserve, split into morning and afternoon drives (or one continuous excursion with a picnic lunch, depending on the group's stamina) — cheetah, leopard, and, from July to October, the Great Migration itself.
The day closes with a visit to a traditional Maasai village, an easy, interactive way for kids to meet the culture behind the landscape.
A final Mara breakfast, with time for an optional cultural visit before the drive back to Nairobi. If the timing allows, we build in a stop at the Giraffe Centre, where kids can hand-feed endangered Rothschild giraffes.
Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight, or extend the day with the Nairobi National Museum or the Nairobi Safari Walk if your schedule allows.
